The main thing in my manga/anime related activities in the last week or so can
be summed up in three words:
Hikaru. No. Go.
If you've talked to me during that time I'm sure you're well aware of
that fact. *sweatdrop* (Or, on reflection, even if you've only read my blog)
You know the kind of series that you read and it shoots straight up into your
10 favourite manga series? Well, it feels like this one shot straight to #1
and isn't looking like it'll drop down past #5.
I'm now facing the task of hunting down all the good fan places (which I've
found a few of so far, but there should be more). Actually, when I joined the
main HnG mailing list, I was greeted by a very nice AkiHika ficcy which was
a wonderful welcoming present ^^.
And, in my happy new series/fandom mode, I wrote a fic. It's only a little
scene and it's not that great, but I needed more grownup Akira and Hikaru. So
naturally, I made them go out and drink sake. XD
I really need to find translations of everything past the scanslations, though.
And I need to make a new layout. Now.
I was going to comment on the whole AkiHika dynamic, but it's gotten to that
time where my brain starts to get tired, so I'll do it later. Maybe.
Beth, that fic was hilarious.
Not only that; I really liked the style of how it was written. Fandom is definitely
an interesting entity in itself. ^_^

A post from someone who's had a teensy bit too much sugar over the last twenty
four hours. May be extremely pointless. Possibly incoherent. (On the other hand,
most of my posts lately have been a bit like that, so do I even need the warning?

I heard today that the rights to the anime movie Akira have been bought
by the WB. Hello~~~~o, live action movie. I'm not kidding. I've only watched
the first half an hour of the original, but I'm going to bet that the WB version
will be a flop. Unless, of course, they actually do a good job of it.
*cough* Moving right along...
I managed to find a nice FTP site, so now I have all the subbed HnG out so
far. I also got a movie called The Go Masters, but I haven't got around
to watching the whole thing yet so I won't pass judgment until I've finished
it.

Speaking of birthdays...
I think Nokoru was born in 1976. (I know I told some people I thought it was
going to be 1977, but let be explain)
First of all, just the numbers. 16/06/76. They all end in six. Patterns are
good. Was there any other reason they chose 16? Why not 15 or 17? I smell a
hint. ^^
Second, 1976 is the year of the dragon in the Chinese calendar, which fits
him better than the snake (1977 is the snake). Although the snake would still
work, I think it would fit Suoh better than Nokoru from the descriptions I've
read, and Akira's animal works out better that way, too.
It would also put him at 22/23 instead of 21/22 for X.
But in the end I still don't know if this means anything and it could very
well be either. Does it say in any of the old doujinshi what years the Clamp
charas were born in?
(I actually picked 1977 before because of a reason concerning a fic of mine,
but for the official dates I think 1976 might have the best chance. Opinions?
Or maybe a clue in 20 Mensou, since I haven't received mine from Sasuga yet?)

Oh yeah, nice Asuka this month. Can't wait till it arrives. ^^
There are no words for this. Another present from Clamp! ^_^ Not only do they
give us this in the January Asuka, but LD gets the cover of February (plus
the extra color pages inside). Plus the postcard from a couple months ago and
the drawings on their site.
Also, it says there will be LD T-shirts available in February (from Asuka),
but I think you probably have to live in Japan for that...

I adore Akira. And, of course, Sai. Izumi too, especially in the later chapters. *wants to make her next layout a Hikago one*
Hikaru no Go is amazing. I read all of the scanslations in one go and am now
in that state of "I love this series! I want to buy the manga! Read the fanfic!
View the fanart sites since they actually have some for this series! Heck, if
there's no translations for the later volumes I'll do it myself!". I remember
seeing a pic of Sai and Hikaru before and thinking: 'What is that?',
but I will eat my words a thousand times over now. There's definitely slash
possibility to it, but the flow of plot and the drive of the characters is the
main reason I love the series. Actually, regarding the slashy possibilities,
I caved in and bought an Akira/Hikaru doujinshi called "Igo Yoroshiku" which
will be shipped as soon as I send the payment. I can't help it, they're too
cute together. "Chasing after each other" indeed. I also like Izumi/Waya (although
who would be the seme, do you think?), and Sai's emotions are beautiful.
I want to get the anime, but alas, the queues are all way too long. It looks so good too... *teary eyes*
I started playing the Hikago gameboy advance game in Japanese, and even though I know little to nothing about Go (except the little pieces I picked up from the manga) I won the first game. ^^; Beginner's luck? Probably.
Obsessed? Me? How could you tell?
I think we can start counting the days to the next Asuka installment... ^_^

I've started a new fic for a series that doesn't have much of a fandom yet, at least in the English
language. I've got three pages written so far and snippets and an outline for
the rest of it. It's really an interesting experience when there's no other fics or fanon and the only thing you can refer to when you're writing is the manga. It's nice in a way,
actually. It does present other problems, but I'll deal with those as best I
can. Of course, I would be much happier if other people would write fiction from that
series, but sometimes one has to go to drastic measures when the realization
hits that the only way a fic is going to come out is if you write it yourself.
(If you're wondering what series it's from, the layout should give you a hint.
^_~)
I'm taking a break from my CCD one for the time being. I think that particular muse needs a vacation for a while.
Lately I've been feeling...well...like I need to grow up some more and it's
not happening fast enough. I had the misfortune of being surrounded by some
less than desirable (aka narrow-minded) people and ideas growing up and I let
it get to me, and now that things are different and people are intelligent and
open-minded (well, more people than before) I find myself struggling to get
back into that mindset where things are freer and I can ask questions and speak
intelligently without getting strange looks.
On that note, it's true, I can be a sensitive person. But I value honesty above that. If there is something wrong with my writing or even the way I'm acting, I would be much happier if I was told than if it was just left that way and both parties were unhappy with the situation.
Didn't know I was going to write about that, but I may as well get it out of my system. ^^;
Oh, I found a Japanese fanart site with LD pics, so that makes me very happy. =^^=
